MAKSI ANNA KOZIŃSKA
A PhD candidate in bilingualism and Assiociate Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge working on the topic of Polish heritage speakers in England.
She holds an MSc degree in Specialised Translation (Scientific, Technical and Medical) from the University College London and a BA in English Literature from Kujawy and Pomorze University in Bydgoszcz. She completed her postgraduate studies in Teaching Polish as a Second Language and Culture at the Jagiellonian University and the Polish University Abroad.
Since 2012, she has cooperated with St. Jadwiga the Queen School Forest Gate/Ilford (Polska Szkoła im. św. Królowej Jadwigi Forest Gate-Ilford) – as an A-level Polish teacher, GCSE speaking examiner, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
She has been working for over 10 years teaching Polish language at the GCSE and A-levels in various schools in London and Essex.
Since June 2016, she has held the position of an External Expert to the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). Owner of M4-Education, where she teaches Polish as a second, heritage and foreign language.
Since 2018, an examiner of Polish State Certificate Examinations in London at PolWord, the only accredited school to organise official examinations in Polish.
Co-founder and Chairwoman at the Polish Language Communication Centre in London – the association which encourages teachers to promote the idea of multilingualism and Polish language and culture in the United Kingdom.
A lecturer at Klub Nauczyciela, where she runs workshops for heritage language teachers. She has conducted many lectures and workshops for the Polish Educational Society in London. A member of the Bristol Association of the Polish language, and Home, Heritage and Community Languages Advisory Group (HHCL) as well as the Association of Polish Teachers Abroad (APTA).
Co-author of the coursebooks for Polish heritage speakers: GCSE Polish Nowe Tematy and Lekcje z polskiego series. She is passionate about the issue of didactic translations and heritage languages.
In 2022, she was awarded the Medal of the Commission of National Education – a Polish departmental distinction awarded for outstanding services to education and upbringing by the Minister of Education and Science of Poland. In February 2023, she received the Gold Badge of the Polish Educational Society for her activist work for Polish language education in the UK.
